Cloudex was a song in which I used a lot of my own recorded samples. My iPhone was useful for recording these samples, as I recorded the majority of them on the go. Whenever I heard a sound that I liked or a sound that I knew I could modify to my liking, I simply opened the voice memo app and recorded. If you listen carefully you can here things such as wood being hit against a table and crunches from eating chips. For the atmosphere, I used something rather unexpected. While I was on a Skype call with poor connection, I could hear a sound that sounded almost like crickets outside. Using a program called sound flower, I recorded this and looped it throughout the song. I also wanted to experiment with traditional Indian instruments. Although they were not used in a traditional way, you can hear different sounds of Tabla throughout the song. Unfortunately, Tabla samples are difficult to find, but after scouring the internet I finally found some. My goal for this song was to reinvent lounge music. In order for me to do this, I paid particular attention to the music that was played in elevators and lounge-like restaurants. While I knew songs played in these kinds of places had some bass frequencies, they were often overshadowed due to the low volume or the speakers themselves. Because of this, people would never associate lounge music with low frequencies. In Cloudex, one of the things I emphasised was the bass frequencies. I also opted to play with more digital-sounding instruments.
