My boarding school roommate recently approached me with rap lyrics he wrote. He asked my to produce a hip hop song to accompany his lyrics. This was a great opportunity for me to attempt a genre I had never produced before.
At first I did not know how to approach the percussion part of the song, so I closely analysed different hip hop songs in my music library. After creating the percussion section I then proceeded to create a bass line. To make this song unique, I deliberately refrained from looking up the typical key hip hop music is made in and from using 808 sounding basses. To top it off I added a sampled voice of a woman. The uncut sample is a woman singing “tell me you know where we are going.”
Unfortunately, as of now I do not have enough money to buy an audio interface as well as a microphone. This project has been put on hold until then.
