A few summers ago, I attended the NuVu Studio in Boston. NuVu is an opportunity for students to attend a workshop led by professors and teachers from MIT and Harvard.
Each workshop has a specific goal. My group’s goal was to build a super hero vehicle. I was nervous the first day because I did not know anyone else, but later on I grew closer to everyone. We first sat down as a group and designed the car. After a few days the leaders broke us up into groups and assigned us to build specific parts of the vehicle based on our strengths. My job was to design a NERF turret that could detect humans and fire automatically. After the vehicle was completed, we presented it to our parents.
Unfortunately, my parents could not attend as they were in India while I was all the way in Boston, however, I greatly enjoyed this experience. I had the opportunity to do something I love for two weeks and I got to stay in a hotel all by myself. Living on my own, organizing my own transportation and food really brought out the independent side of me especially at the age of 14.
