For about a year and a half after my previous song, I decided that producing was something I was passionate about. It was during this period that I began teaching myself proper production technique and piano basics. I wanted to learn piano so I could more easily transfer ideas in my head to my DAW through Midi. It was also at this point that I invested in an advanced DAW. I decided to go with Logic Pro 9, as I already had a Mac. Since it was made by Apple, I knew the software would have constant support. During this period I produced small tracks and remixes in order to apply my new knowledge. Rhapsody was the first complete song I produced after this period. After producing half of the song, I felt it lacked something. At this point I decided to find a vocalist. I went around school looking for good singers, unfortunately, I found nothing to my satisfaction. One day, a person on Facebook that I had only spoke to once or twice in fifth grade posted an original song of hers called “Faded Memories.” I was desperate for a vocalist and had finally found my muse. I contacted her and she agreed to collaborate. She wrote the lyrics and sang in the song. While producing this song, I had trouble creating drum patterns. This is when I approached a friend of mine who has been a long time drummer and producer, and added him to the fold. Were I to redo this song, I would make it flow better and would reduce the melodic repetition in the middle of the song. I felt the song lacked connection between the pre- and post-melody. Earlier elements were lacking in the section after the melody. After the melody, the song barely had any elements from the rest of the song. It was almost as if the song went unplugged. This song was also my first attempt at mastering. The problem with mastering your own track is that your ears are very used to hearing everything. A fresh pair of ears would have been better for this job. I also realised that mastering is a lot harder than I expected. The song, in my opinion, ended up being too bass heavy, post-mastering.
